Director's Report - July 11, 2023

REPORT TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Mathews Memorial Library
Bette Dillehay, Director
July 11, 2023

The report that follows outlines current administrative matters and ongoing activities that occurred during the report period.
Financial Report
Current Reporting Period
Information presented in the current financial report is a statement of resources and expenses for a two-month period ending June 30, 2023. Operational expenses for the report period totaled $11,253.15. Year-to-date non-personnel expenses for FY22/23 are $103,576.08, a 10.4% decrease over FY21/22. The current fiscal year reflects a significant increase in non-State Aid Grants/Donations, much of which was designated for programs. As noted in previous reports, several line items reflect an increase over the approved budget appropriation Line item 5230 reflects charges that exceed the budget as the library continues to sustain significant charges in support of the community wi-fi program. While several federal and state grants have been made available, these sums are not immediately reflected in the county’s library financial documents.
Salaries and Related Expenses
The amount budgeted for salaries and related benefits for FY 22/23 is $331,238 or $27,603 per month. A current financial activity report reflecting the amount spent as of June 39, 2023, shows a total of $347,238 or 101.05% of the total budgeted amount for FY22/23. It should be noted that, in July, the County approved a 5% increase in salaries. It could not be confirmed that this increase is reflected in the current trial balance report dated April 11, 2023.
Patrons
The number of new patrons showed a 2.50% increase over the same period a year ago.. Circulation of materials during the report period, on the other hand, increased by 26.42%. This increase is thought to reflect a post-COVID return to the library by patrons. An increase of 47.44% by juvenile patrons is indeed good news.
Projects/Programs
This week, beginning July 11th marks the beginning of a very busy program schedule. The youth program, “All Together Now” explores the importance of friendship and working together. Featured, in addition to the youth summer program, is a technology program exploring the significance of the newly popular subject – Artificial Intelligence. This takes places immediately following the July BOT meeting at 7 pm. It was arranged with the help of Board member Rob Quartel.
Soothin’ Summer Sounds will feature a program, Plunky & Oneness jazz, on July 13th and the Ambrosia Quartet on August 31st. A program featuring the VSO was held on June 15th..
