BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2024
The Board of Trustees Meeting was called to order at 5PM. Attending was Bette Dillehay,
Michael Miskovsky, Dana Brown, Deona Pavik, Rob Quartel and Joi Ball.
Minutes were presented prior. They were approved by all.
Bette gave the financial report which showed a 6.2% increase of operational expenses from
FY 22-23. More digital means of using the Library is a challenge to establishing new programs
using electronic resources.
The Budget for the Library has been presented to the County showing the average of salaries
are lower than other surrounding localities. A request for the County to increase the salaries to
be more competitive with surrounding localities.
Budget was moved for acceptance by Deona, 2nd by Rob. Vote was passed by all.
Compared to last year’s patrons number there is an increase of 2.37%.
The Wi-Fi Hotspot Lending Program is the most popular program. The funding program to
keep this active is secure through June 2024. To keep this available a non-traditional funding
will be needed.
Four events were held at the Library during the Holidays. Decorating trees, The Williamsburg
Symphony concert, cookie exchange, and story time with Santa were all well attended. A
thank-you goes to the Friends for their financial support to make this happen.
A discussion to enhance the Teen Area included thoughts on more board games. This area
gives the teens a safe place to be together. Of the 4 programs already existing the Dungeons
and Dragons are the most popular.
Carolyn Taylor’s term will end in June, 2024. Deona Pavik agreed to be Vice-Chairman until
June 2024. Due to the unavailable attendance of Alec Foster, another appointment of a
Trustee to fulfill the position is needed. Also considering acceptance of an additional trustee
plus inviting a teen from Mathews High School to the group.

Next regular meeting will be March 12, 2024 at 5 PM.
