Board of Trustees Minutes - July 11, 2023

MATHEWS MEMORIAL LIBRARY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
TUESDAY, JULY 11, 2023

The Board of Trustees Meeting was called to order at 5PM by Carolyn Taylor. Those in attendance were Bette Dillehay, Michael Miskovsky, Dana Brown, Deona Pavik, Alex Foster, and Joi Ball representing the Friends.
Minutes were approved by all.
Bette noted that that the Operational Expenses for the past 2 months totaled $11,253.15 which shows a decrease of 10.4% compared to last years budget.
There have been several grants received to support the community wi-fi program. More online activity is noted than actual checkouts in library. New patrons to the library shows an increase
of 2.50% to date from last year. And the juvenile patron has an increase of 47.44%.
The library is noting the limited space available to display books. Finding new ways of display
throughout is a challenge such as weeding out older books and including all new editions. The
youth have a large selection.
The summer program begins this week, July 11. The youth program, “ All Together Now” ,
notes the importance of friendship and working together. There are 37 children registered
for the Day Camps. A technology program is exploring the subject, “Artificial Intelligence”.
The Soothin’ Summer Sounds are popular during the summer.
Joi Ball gave a report from the Friends. At this time new doors have been ordered to
replace old ones. Air Conditioning has been an issue during this summer. The Friends
are revamping its website.
Under Old Business Bette shared the Teen “Pride” issue. Calmly she was able to handle this
with no large problem.
We are reminded to review the Bylaws.
Under New Business a survey of library hours operation is being circulated. Maintenance
projects consisting of the pergola, roof, paint are continuing. A proposal to replace the
18 yr. old Chiller system for $95,479.00. A request for us to support this was made by
Carolyn.
Deona Pavik agreed to lead the next trustees meeting due to Carolyn being away.
Adjournment with next meeting on Tues. September 12, 2023 at 5PM.
Respectively submitted,
Dana Brown, Secretary
