Library Services
How do I join the library?
The privilege of checking out library materials and the use of other library services is available to anyone regardless of residence. New patrons are asked to apply for a library card in person by filling out a short application and agreeing to adhere to all library policies.
If you are age 18 or older, you must submit your application in person at the adult circulation desk. If you are under age 18, you must submit your application in person at the youth circulation desk or the teen circulation desk. A signature of a parent or guardian will be required.
There is no fee for a library card. Replacement cards are $1.00. For more information and an application you can print out, please browse to our library card webpage.
Temporary visitor passes are also available for individuals visiting the area and would like to use the library's computer services.
How do I use a library computer?
Library computers are available for patrons to browse websites, check email, create Office documents, play games and much more. You must be a library card holder in good standing (no excessive fines or overdue items) to use a computer. It is not required for patrons to check in at the circulation desk before using a computer.
Adult patrons must sign in with their name and library card number at one of two signup stations. After a few moments you will be assigned a computer to use. Sign in again on the assigned computer and you are ready to go. Kids and Teens can go directly to a computer in their dedicated area and sign in.
If you need assistance, staff are always available to help.
Is there a time limit for computer use?
Yes and no! Each session is limited to 1 hour. However, if there are no patrons waiting for a computer, your time is automatically extended another hour. This will continue indefinitely until there is, at least, one patron waiting to get on.
The library currently has 13 computers dedicated for adult patron use, so usually there is no one waiting.
I have my own laptop. How can I use the library's Wi-Fi?
To use the library's Wi-Fi you must check in at the circulation desk with your valid library card or visitor's pass. You will be given a password for our secure wireless network. Look for "Mathews Library" among the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your device.
